About the event

This year's Light A Candle For Literacy Children's Book Festival & Parade will take place on Saturday, September 7th, from 12 to 4 p.m. The event kicks off with a lively parade starting at Beauchamp Library at 12 noon, traveling to Brighton Academy, where the Children's Book Festival will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Attendees can enjoy free book giveaways, book signings by children's book authors, engage with community groups, and enjoy free food and activities. Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite character and march in the parade, making it a fun and festive celebration for all!

Event Highlights:

  • Parade of Books: Dress up as your favorite book character and march with us from Beauchamp Library to Brighton Academy!
  • Meet & Greet with Princess Tiana: A special opportunity for children to meet and take photos with Princess Tiana.
  • Free Books: Free books will be given away at the festival, so everyone can take home a new favorite story!
  • Author Signings: Meet local children's book authors and get your books signed. Special guest Zuzu Sampson, the 9-year-old author of "Braille Boy," will be joining us!
  • Live Performances: Experience a captivating portrayal of Harriet Tubman by a talented actor and more.
  • Free Food & Activities: Enjoy delicious free food, fun games, and educational activities for kids of all ages.
  • Exhibitors & Community Groups: Explore booths from local businesses and organizations committed to literacy and education.

- Start at Beauchamp Library

- Head west on Colvin Street

- Turn left onto Cannon Street

- Turn right onto Warner Avenue

- Turn left onto Midland Avenue

- Turn right onto West Lafayette Avenue

- Finish at Brighton Academy
